The summer season is upon us. Are you prepared for the heat? Now is a good time to start up your air conditioner. It's best to see where your system is at before the hot summer starts, and leaves you unprepared. Starting up your system now will help you identify issues like lack of cool air, or frequent cycling, and other performance issues, that may need to be resolved. Don't wait for that first hot day of summer, and get stuck waiting for repairs!
Now is the time to adjust your programmable thermostat. Creating temperature schedules , and setting temperatures back during those cooler evening hours, can actually save you money on your energy bill.
Check your air filter. Checking and changing you air filter more often, even as soon as monthly, during those heavy use seasons, will cut down on possible contaminants, and help keep your cooling system running more efficiently during those hot months, when you need it the most.
Are your registers and return air vents open, and clear? Make sure furniture and rugs are not blocking vents. Shut off and close unused areas, to optimize higher traffic areas, and also conserve energy.
Inspect exterior cooling equipment. Make sure the outside unit is free from debris, and clear of grass. Also inspect your cooling system's drip pan and condensate drain lines clogs. Any interference to these areas can cause significant cooling systems malfunction.
